I am sorry, that's awful. If there is no warning and you were not doing anything foolish....get a lawyer. At least get your medical bills covered

That is an unfortunate accident for sure. Long term you are going to be OK but man that sucks having to go trough that. A friend of mine lost a tip of a finger like that and he had phantom feelings for a while after it happened. Like his brain that it was still receiving sensations from the missing fingertip.

Broke my right index finger in five pieces on the same unit 2 weeks ago ; been wearing a splint for two weeks, going back for xrays on Monday. Had trouble getting a pin out and had my right hand in the wrong place when I got the pin out with my left hand. I learned that lesson the hard way !!

OUCH! I hope that you heal quickly and the pain is minimal.

Hmmmm, I wonder if B&W is going to address this issue. I had a hard enough time catching fish when I had 10 fingers

Hope they get you to a hand guy that can do a flap to cover the end, instead of just shortening it. Will depend on how much bone you have left in the last segment.

Missing or broken fingers from not putting a metal stop on either side of the ball assembly, or at least advising that when removing pins that significant rotational shear occurs. Either would be a good start

It is a heavy issue hunk of metal that slides in a channel, I own one and knowing how gravity works I have never even came close to this happening. I am truly sorry those two got hurt but for peat sakes people calling to sue is one reason why prices rise and insurance rates keep going up. I guess I should sue the hook manufacturer when I got impaled trying to unhook my redeye shad from a 1lber.

Wait....Isn't your job a "Safety Specialist?" Like what you do for a living is insuring safety shields/locks, procedures, and manufacturer precautions are in place to prevent injury?? You have not heard me reference a suit in any way, nor have 98% of the members who posted here. But if 2 members here have already suffered a significant injury from use of this product, what would the safety specialist side of you suggest happen? Educate the consumer of said risk or alter the design to prevent that from occurring, which the only 2 things you heard me mention. It's a freaking tow hitch, not mining equipment and if such injury can happen to bass fishermen who are accustomed to hitch use in general, then perhaps the manufacturer might consider making it less of a danger to those who are even less acclimated . I started this thread as a PSA and you're trying to make it about hot McDonalds coffee even though you read the post and saw the injury. Thanks

Yes but for somethings it is just common sense. We do JHA 's for things that do not have definitive safety measures . So in a home case you need to look at what your working with and plan accordingly.
