I will try to get pictures tomorrow.
There is a pin that goes thru the bracket that can be moved lower. Looks like it's in the middle holes.

Anyone happen to know what this device is?
    20240512_103314.jpg
It is currently wired to a generic push button...that is 12vdc positive...on both wires.
Speedo also has a wire unhooked.
    And Scotchlocks everywhere....I hate wiring.
Looks like I'm going to have to get a wiring diagram.
I guess the saying stands. Free isn't always good, or cheap.

Hahahahaha. Well it has a grill in the opening so I wasn't sure. Upon further inspection it appears to be a horn.
I am definitely going through the wiring before hitting the water. I don't want to be going along and think...what smells like burning Corvette?

Just in my experience running 2 strokes as old as 1988...Ethanol free gas, and any tcw-30 rated oil from the major brands will do. Ive used pennzoil premium plus for years and I like it. Is your boat running mix now, or does the oil pump still work? I like the idea of my motors running rich on oil...burns a bit more expensive oil but also protects the motor. The death of the two stroke motor was 100% attributed to EPA's need to reduce the amount of oil being burned. The richer the better as far as two strokes go. The plugs certainly foul up quicker so I swap plugs every spring.

    Cool looking boat!

Original owner (wifes grandfather) bypassed the VRO in the 80s and has always run 50:1 mix in the fuel.
He sold the boat to the father-in-law in the 90s and he continued that during his use of the boat and never had plug issues. So I figure if it has worked for almost 40 years I'll do it the same way. Only ethanol free fuel close to me is premium
fuel. We used to have a ethanol free 87 here but that went away several years ago.

Just got a New to me boat. It is a 1986 Aries 176 F/S, with a 115hp Evinrude. My father-in-law decided he is getting to old for it and prefers his 14 foot John boat now. So he gave the bass boat to us. It has been stored inside its entire life and the Evinrude was rebuilt by a local shop last fall.
I will put pictures up after she gets a bath as it has a fine layer of storage dust on it.
I am not new to mechanicing on things, as that is my job. But, I am sure I'll have outboard questions as I have never really messed with them much.
I notice there isn't a section for the Aries on the forum, and I really haven't found much online either. We're they a more obscure brand back in the day?
    Welcome aboard!

So I have just about everything rewired and working. Except the trim gauge. But... I don't know for sure that it doesn't work, as I just (as im typing this)realized that the trim switch and motor are wired separately from the ignition switch. So... if the gauge is on the key switch I need to turn that on first. Damn i need a second person here to talk to when im working. Even if they just drink while I work... just to bounce ideas off of them... beer, not my good scotch.
