What you wanted to be when you grew up as a child

Of course we all said baseball players etc when we first told our parents what we wanted to be. My nephew's four year old son finally let it out of the bag, he wants to be a police car.

I wanted to be a garbage can. Guess "man" came out as "can." But for a four-year-old boy riding around on the back of a truck seemed pretty cool.

A farmer like my grandpa, it was so much fun riding around with him on the tractors and combine. He had gotten rid of all the animals when I was like 2 or 3 so don't remember any of them.

after having my first computer programming class as a sophomore in HS, I went home and told my dad that was it. He was a EE and thought Software was not something I should want.
He didn't consider it real engineering. He now of course at the age of 86 and seeing 40 years of shift to software he has changed his tune. This year, I will pass 41 years in the Software
    Development side of the house.

I always wanted to be a baseball player too - but with a twist.

I wanted to be a baseball player with my own fishing show.

When I was little I wanted to be in the Air Force like my dad. When I got older I realized the Army was more to my liking.

I wanted to be a forest ranger and an environmentalist to save the forests and animals

Ended up in engineering whose job involves disturbing the environment to build roads…

When I was about 6 years old I wanted to drive a bulldozer when I got bigger. I was fascinated with heavy equipment.

As a kid, racecar driver, the next Bobby Allison. 7-8 yrs old I had Hot Wheels cars painted up like the Winston Cup cars of the day and would play race all the time.

As a teenager I wanted to be a truck driver. Our neighbor drove a cabover Freightliner hauling steel for AESCO and I was always fascinated with big rigs. My senior year I inquired about a driving school. Nope. 12 weeks in the Midwest and then be on the road cross country for a month at a time. Didn't dampen my affection for big rigs though.

When I retired I told folks I finally figured out what I wanted to do when I grow up.
