    New/used Chevy Silverado? Thoughts

So my Grand Cherokee is getting up there and I would like to upgrade my boat in a few years so, debating a new/used silverado 1500. I just like the way they look, but haven't driven one. Any options I should make sure it has? I'm set on that truck size, even if I end up getting something other than a Chevy. Boat I would get would be between 18-19.5 so don't need more than than that. Any year models that introduced something worth having when towing? Looking for 2016 or newer.

    Thanks.

They should be able to pull service or warranty repair records on one that new. Look out for the copies that spent lots of time in the shop.

Pick an engine choice and trim level. The LTZ package is the best all around package for tech and towing and price in my opinion. 5.3l or 6.2l is all depending on your wants. They will both tow fine. The 6.2l require higher octane gas to get all the performance out of it.

I have had a 2015.5 Silverado LTZ HD and now a 2019 Silverado HD High Country and the interior's have not changed in that time frame.

Options I prefer are: 5.3 liter V8, 4-wheel drive, Z-71 off-road package, factory tow package, locking rear diff., LT trim level or above. I have a 2018 RCSB. It does a great job pulling a relatively heavy Triton TR19 XS.

2013 and older 5.3L were/are oil burning machines. The newer ecotechs aren't as bad on burning oil, but still do. They hold 8 quarts however so it isn't as noticeable.

I just picked up a used 2019 Nissan Titan 4x4 cheap, and I mean cheap, lol. Pulls my 21’ boat easily and Titan’s come with a 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty on them for peace of mind!

Get a 6.2L with the new 10 speed and you'll be a happy man. The new models have a real enjoyable driving experience all around.

I sit in heavy traffic on my morning commute so MPG is important.

The new ones (2014-15) burn oil just a bad as the previous 2007-13 model years. I traded mine in for a Tundra. My son is stuck with his for a few more years. He adds a quart or 2 between oil changes. I won’t buy another AFM engine.

As of 2020, they now offer the 6.2 in more trims than the High Country and LTZ. So, if you don't want all the stuff that comes with the high end trims, you can still get the 6.2 and save a few bucks.

They’re great, reliable, good looking trucks. You can’t go wrong with a Silverado!

But...my buddy has the new Ram and WOW! I haven’t been in a truck I wanted more than my F150 until I got in that Ram. Great gas mileage and is super comfortable to drive! The ride is super nice as well.

My 2015 doesn't burn a drop of oil....it never has. You'll hear plenty of complaints about the 8 speed trans too, but there is a TSB that was released last year to use a new Mobil synthetic trans fluid and flush procedure which has cured the shifting issues. I really like my 8 speed 6.2 combo.

The new RAMs ride better than any vehicle I have ever been in. It does come with the typical FCA issues though.
