New Truck or fix the old one?

I'm in a dilemma Gents and I could use some fiscal rational please.

My current Truck 2017 silverado 1500 lt , 100,000 miles, $18,900 pay-off and a $595/ mo payment for about two more years

My transmission went out and it would be $4300 to replace and install .

Should I put that amount of out of pocket cash into the 17' or should I buy a new truck with a much higher payment $695 /mo for 72 months.

I was hoping to drive this truck at least till it was paid out.

Money is a factor in both cases. Coming up with $4300 isn't going to be fun nor would a 695 monthly payment for 72 more months

That is high mileage for 3 years but a 3 year old truck should have lots of life left in it.

I do put a bunch of miles on my truck for sales and visiting my kids in college. Not to mention fishing trips

You still owe a lot of money on your truck so I would think repairing the Transmission is your only fiscal option unfortunately. Shop around and maybe you can find a better price on repair. Did they say what exactly went wrong with your transmission? Sucks it’s only 3 years old.

Is that price from a shop or the dealership?

Have you gotten a quote from a garage who carries Jasper transmissions ? My son in law bought one for his truck and has gotten 150,000 more miles out of his truck so far.

Fix it. Sucks to drop the money, but not as much as digging a huge hole by buying a new truck.

Man that sucks! I would definitely fix the transmission as bad as it hurts.

Are you sure? Why would payoff be so much more than the total of your remaining 24 payments of $595?

id be checking more repair options.

Dump it! Buy new. 3 year warranty says it all. Stability

I am with the fix it crowd. I pull mine normally with a 93 Bronco. Bought it in 2008 when gas prices were so high for $1400 (Didn't matter I've owned 6 of the things both early and big) Paint peeling, not the best looking rig at the ramp. Blew head gasket last year at 230K. Decided to just rebuild since i had to go that deep anyway. $2200 later, this includes machine work it runs like a dream and still drives great. Painting it this fall and making it look like what Ford should have done...A 1st gen lightning Bronco. so with everything I've ever had to do to it I'm still in it for less than 5K. Wife's Equinox was right at 20K used. Fix it and drive it. Once paid for you will be happy. But there is a caveat...Except for machine work me, son in law and grandson did all the labor, and i have a back up...94 XLT that i could drive while this one was down. What ever you decide...Good luck!!
    I am a Crankbait junkie...I'm in a program...It ain't helping!
