Shop around for repair. $4300 too high. If you are mechanical inclined, might be able to order of the internet.

You should be able to get it rebuilt by a reputable shop for WAY cheaper than $4300, with a decent warranty on it.

You're not going to get anything for the truck with a broken transmission and since you'll need to get it repaired you might as well keep driving it.

I wouldn't be very happy if the transmission went bad on a vehicle that's only 3 years old with 100K on it. That is unacceptable.

Best Buy Transmission $2495.00 with a 5 year warranty ships all over the states, might cost a few more to have it installed but might be worth looking into it....

    It's cheaper to fix it.

Shop around. $4300 for a reman trans is a bit steep.

You could have one rebuilt and upgraded for less.

Is that in a negative equity situation? So a trade maybe be a lot more then 4300.

Fix it. I smell big negative equity if you trade.

Here's my advice. I went through the same thing back in March with my 2016 ram 2500. Transmission went out with 90,000 miles. I owed about 11,000 on the truck. I thought of trading in but trucks are so expensive now and I wouldn't get crap for trade in and I really just want to pay off this truck and keep driving it.

I priced a lot of places. Some shops didn't want to mess with it. Dealer wanted $7600.00. Another shop wanted $6500 to install a jasper unit which ended up at about $2500 labor for removal and installation.

I found a local shop a friend referred me to and a stock rebuild would've been $3600.00. I paid about $800 more for upgraded clutches and torque converter as I tow and haul a lot (im a contractor).

To everyone saying it's too high I don't agree 100%. You may find a cheaper place but these new transmissions, especially the new 8 speed and 10 speed units, are going to cost a lot more to rebuild than the old three speed with overdrive ones. The days of the $1500 transmission rebuilds are over.

I've had zero problems with the truck other than the transmission. I've put 15,000 miles on it since the rebuild and got a 25,000/two year warranty with it. If I was having a bunch of other issues with the truck I would've probably gotten rid of it.

What happened to the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty? If you are even over a little, goodwill should cover it or at least heavily discount it through your dealer.

Going to say based on the limited info given, he will be deeply upside down if he does that. He's better off to fix it, and keep driving it until he pays it off. I can't tell you how many credit apps I see with people who have large amounts of negative equity in a "
new" car because of situations like this...

I have a 2016 Sierra with 70k and I went ahead and replaced the transmission. I plan on driving it many more miles.

Rebuilt was $2500 and paid local trans shop $800 for the swap.

Why did it go out at 70K and only 4 years old?
