Washer, gentle cycle with pre-soak. Some of the Oxi detergents might clean best, but they seem to be hard on the fabric. As for drying...the bill is all that matters, so get it shaped the way you want it and let it sit a few days. I've got one favorite that needs tending to...it's been washed once or twice before. I hadn't thought about using the dishwasher, but SWMBO would raise holy hell about that, and it's just not worth the stress.

Mine gets washed in the lake a couple of times a year.....when it blows off while on plane! Washing machine and air dry the rest of the time.

I just hand wash mine. Get a scrub brush and some detergent and scrub it and rinse it off.

Throw it in the washer every few months. But here's a trick for the sweat stains they get and won't wash out completely. Spray the hat with PAM and wash again. It is now a shade darker, but all the same.

BPS used to sell a hat washer, put the hat in the frame and put in the washer, I did it once in the dishwasher, came out ok but next time I will just wash under sink faucet and let dry.

Never heard of using the dishwasher...is there some advantage to washing your hats in the dishwasher?

Washing machine when it's in need an oil change...just hang it on the doorknob to dry. Bend the bill and put back on

I wash mine in the sink using a scrub brush and Dawn. I rinse it good and then hang it on a nail on the porch to dry.

Get a large disposable plastic container. Put the hat inside, fill a little over half way with water, put in a small amount of laundry detergent, seal the lid and shake for a couple of minutes. You may have to pour out the dirty water and repeat the cycle. When the hat looks clean, rinse it under running water and let it dry overnight. The hat will come out looking new and undamaged.

If a good rinse in the lake isn't enough just do it in a sink by hand.

This, then lay it on the counter on a hand towel to air dry.

Am I the only one who doesn't wash their fishing hat? To me that's washing away the luck. My hats get so sun bleached that I'm not trying to keep them nice. It ends up in the water a few times each year so I figure that's enough.

Soft potato brush in the sink with dish detergent. Removes every bit of grime and stank without deforming it like a washing machine would, and air dry to help keep its shape too.

Washing machine. I have a fat head. I use a soccer ball or a kids inflatable ball to hold the shape while drying.
