They’re awesome when they run, but one little problem and there goes the motor.
The same can happen to a 4 stroke just as easily.

    What’s everyone’s opinion on a 2015 mercury 250hp Verado? I found a Phoenix with one. 300 hrs.

Heavy for a bass boat about 600 lbs, the 250 Pro XS 4 strokes are 100 lbs lighter.

It would take me 2.5 years to burn 10 gallons of DFI oil. You must be making a lot of long, high speed, runs if you burning that much oil in a month...

Lake Powell is a big lake. It’s nothing to run through 50 gallons of gas in a day. Throw in 2 days pre fish, and two tournament days. I’ve burned through 250 gallons of gas in a week on lake Powell. WOT everywhere I go.

I know they’re heavy, but are they a good motor?

I'm not sure of the current cost, but I'm sure it's well north of 10k and at this moment you probably wouldn't get one for a couple months. I'm thinking it's around 14k but I'm not sure if that's labor added in or not. It was about half that for a 2 stroke power head. I'm really not trying to push you away from one but they aren't all that much cheaper to run and they are lots more expensive to fix.

Yes sir!!! They are a damn good motor!!! Of course they weigh more but lots of torque and used in the Walleye,Salt water industry. My partner has one on his 620 ranger with over 2300 hours on it.

Their a great motor but make sure you have a dealer that can work on them. Not all Merc dealers have a certified Verado tech or the tools needed to work on one.

Yeah me too. 10 gallons of oil is min 500 gallons of gas @ 50:1 right? So like $1500/month in boat gas. I would be tired of filling up....lol

Well I ended up finding a boat. It’s not 20 foot, and it’s not a four stroke. Lol. But it’s a very clean, well maintained, low hour boat that should suit my needs. And it was half of my budget. Drove 29 1/2 hours round trip over the last two days to pick it up. 2007 bass cat pantera ii. Pics to come.

I think you will like the PII. A note on the Optimax/ProXS 2 strokes to use less oil. I noticed you said you go WOT, everywhere. Every time you nail the throttle or hot foot to get to WOT, the programming adds about 50 shots of oil in anticipation of high RPM. If you have a “happy foot” as Don calls it, you are sending those shots every time you come off the throttle then jump back on it. You can waste A LOT of oil, whether it is expensive DFI oil or Pennzoil XLF.
