Witnessed first email signature preferred pronouns

Needed to reference a phone number in email signature. Before stated name in signature desired preferred pronouns were listed. I looked up what this means but it still confuses me. If one’s name is in email signature why does one need to state “she, her, etc.?”

I work in corporate life. It's because the name doesn't always indicate the pronoun they want used.

I'm honestly not sure how it works either. The only example I can think of is in a John Wayne movie "Angle and the badman" the religious girl calls John Wane "the", then explains why. Maybe I'll look it up someday.

I saw my first. It was a she/her/hers, they only I’ve seen so far. Not surprised considering the person it came from. Not someone who identifies differently each day, but someone who overthinks these situations, I guess you could say. Corporate email.

It could have come in handy for me a while back. Sending an email to person at another Air Force Base, the recipient's name was Brandy. I started it with "Ms Last name". Turns out, Brandy was a guy. We ended up working together a few years after that and he said I was definitely not the first.

This is more and more common. Our company directory has an option for it. It's a key part of diversity and inclusion programs.

Yeah we have an option for it now as well. I've only seen a couple that weren't what you'd expect, but one was something along the lines of "Heather XXXXX, he/him/his".

You should have heard the military folks I was working with a couple of years ago when all that started.

I had classes of 25 people or so back then, my wife is a professor at the local university. We both decided that everyone got called with name they registered for class.

I was having a discussion about this lunacy with a friend a few months back and how much it irritated both of us. A few weeks later I go an email from him from his work account an his signature block contained “pronouns: I, me, mine”
