    maintenance on cast iron grates?

What product do you use to put on the grates to keep them from rusting? I've been using pam for grilling but am wondering if there is something better/cheaper?
    thanks!

I find that if you use them enough the fat from the meat you are cooking is enough to suffice. However, I have been known to take the fat that I trim off of beef and rub it onto the hot grates from time to time.

I have done this for several folks and tjey say it works great. They clean the grates and bring them to me. I place them in my smoker and place a Boston Butt on each one and let the drippings from the pork coat them. After words I do a VERY LIGHT cleaning to them and wrap them in butcher paper. They then take them home and fire up the grill and get them hot. A quick brush and they are ready to go. From then on just brush them down and a thin coat of grape seed oil after every use
