I will say this, if you have to have a super heavy weight, super heavy action rod in order to throw the a rig then you are rigging it way too heavy...back when I did throw one a lot and was quite successful with it, I used a 7ft medium heavy All Star special.... usually a 1/8 or lighter ..don't want a heavy rod and certainly don't want the bait setup any heavier than it already is...

Dobyns Fury Swimbait 795. For the price it is a lot of rod especially if you can find a 15% coupon.

I use ALX ZOLO Power Bolt. With a 6:8-1 carbonlite big spool. Works great and will spool 17 flouro or sometimes (deep strolling) 50 lb braid with 15 lb flour leader

This is the rod I own and recommend. It's very under the radar and only select Daiwa dealers have the Kage series. I use this rod for glide baits and swim baits more than the A-rig, but it's an excellent A-rig rod as well. The Tackle Trap tries to keep this model in stock, so if it's of any interest, feel free to call the shop or send me a PM. I've been using this model since it came out and like it better than some of the more expensive options out there...

I've got 4 Dobyns 795's on my deck all rigged with different baits and configurations. Amazing what a color change can do to the bite or switching to 3 inch instead of 4 or adding a spinnerbait or chatterbait to the mix.

Same rod paired with a 7.3:1 Quantum Smoke HD, spooled with 50lb braid, no leader.

Another vote for the Irod Bama rig. Also makes for a good punch rod. For a 150 bucks you can’t go wrong.
