Stay far away from Samsung! Whirlpool and Maytag are good and others will chime and list others that they have had success with.

Seems like a crap shoot these days. It does no good to recommend a brand/model that you've had for 10 years because that's not available anymore (like my 20 y.o. Kenmore). And you can't really assess the longevity of a present model if you've only had it a year. I tend to rely on online reviews some and then look at what's available in my area. Good luck

If your garage has gfi outlets. Make sure you stay aware, my garage outlet kicks with a freezer plugged in.

Funny....I am looking at the same thing right now. Our local Menards carries Criterion and I am trying to find out if they are any good and all I am finding is some seriously mixed reviews.
I have a week to get something as we are out of freezer space in our freezer now and I am expecting some venison products to be ready soon!

This is the one I am considering

Make sure you get one that is rated for a garage. I know from experience that extreme temp swings will cause issues with keeping your food frozen.

Experienced this with our latest garage fridge, we had to move it inside. And our deep freezer is now in it's place.

And don't buy an appliance from a TV manufacturer. If the extended warranty is reasonabily priced get that too ! (they don't make them like they used to)

Upright freezers don't keep things as well as a chest freezer because they let out ALL the cold the instant you open the door. Food's more prone to freezer burn in them too - especially things sitting directly on the shelves. Depends on what you are using it for, but I'd never get another upright freezer.

Here's an interesting video on that topic. US consumer protection law says the company should pay legal costs if the ruling goes against them but some judges are refusing to enforce that. The end result is lawyers won't take the cases and consumers are discouraged from going after manufacturers who don't honor the warranty
