    New "cheaper" 16" unit.....1643

For those looking for a 16" unit, Garmin has announced a newer version of a GPSmap 16".....looks to be a littler cheaper than the 8616 series....

Very nice unit. I'm running one alongside the 8616 for a few months now. I'm not seeing any performance differences. It even has the video input for my camera that lets me use AC and record the camera to my phone.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

For that price... I'd go with a NBT Marine head unit for FFS since i already have the blackbox... and switch my 126sv over to mapping and other functions.

What is the difference between this unit and the 8616?

The 8616 has an HDMI Video Input port, and an antenna input port. There are some differences in power consumption as well. Otherwise, everything else seems the same. Not sure if this link will work but here is a comparison chart from Garmin:

Thanks that’s exactly the page I was looking for. Interesting differences in power consumption. Do you know if they share the same processor?

Been running one for a while now and really like it. I think (but not 100%) that the power consumption has to do with the processor. That 16" screen is awesome for perspective mode. I'm running a 126 in forward mode along with it on the trolling motor.

8600 Series and the 1600 Series both have HDMI Video out so, the NBT would work on both. Ultra units no because they don't have video out.

So how are most guys setting everything up? Putting a 86series unit somewhere on boat then running a hdmi cord from unit to nbt?

HDMI in would be used for what? Camera system I’m guessing.

If i was ordering a new boat right now i would definitely order all Garmin units. It seems to me they are easier to navigate the settings.
