are Iguanas in Florida really that bad ?

got into a discussion about Florida's invasive species the other day ‘ I was thinking the non native Pythons , feral hogs, monkeys, nutrias and parrots were much worse the the iguanas I understand now there is a big push to eradicate the Iguanas ? I think it’s a waste of time and effort !

They do a number on infrastructure = walls, foundations, roads. I saw a stat once on the estimated amount of damage they do annually.

One of my best workers ever, Enrique...that man loved him some iguana tacos! Wish now I would have took him up on his many offers having one.

They are just like a chicken except for the extra set of legs, and a longer tail and lack of feathers. Oh and they will whip you with their tail but other than that they are just like a chicken.

You can add it to the Sunday BBQ of manatee brisket and hot Flamingo wings.

I was in the Ft Lauderdale area fishing some canals late January and saw so many iguanas. Every spot I pulled up on there were 5 to 10 of them sunning on the bank. Way more than I see squirrels here.

In an urban environment like that, I can't imagine there being too many predators to control their population so sure, I guess it is a big deal there.

Mike Rowe did an episode of Dirty Jobs doing just that. Looked like fun.

Maybe the colder weather of this past winter slowed their take over a little.

I bought my son-in-law a high power pellet gun to knock them off at his place. They are tearing up the bulkhead grass. You'd think the gators would eat them.

I used to have a friend who had one for a pet. It was sort of like having a cat around the house. Very tame
    Don't worry Ma'am....
    I'm only here for the
    Bass.
