Grammar Police are over worked and under paid but the satisfaction of showing their superiority over the public educated dolts makes the task worthwhile. BBC is full of folks who need policing though.

Expressions like “twenty-odd years,” “a dozen-odd people,” and “two hundred-odd mistakes” are usually written with a hyphen before the “odd” to indicate that the exact number is unknown—perhaps a bit higher than the stated number. If you omit the hyphen, as in “a dozen odd people attended my birthday party,” you risk giving the impression that the people who came were odd rather than that you can’t be sure of the precise number of your guests.

If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

Anytime I want to push my ex's buttons it never failed if I added a "th" to trough or said pacifically for specifically. I don't know why the marriage didn't work.

You mean like, "Let's eat, Grandma." vs "Let's eat Grandma."

You just didn't finish. "It's right at 8 feet long". Or, "It's right at the 8 foot mark".

This is a significant grammatical revelation that's going to take me awhile to digest and decipher. Is one actually required to verbally insert the word "hyphen" when speaking of odd in this context for the listeners benefit of understanding?

There is no formal requirement, just a strong suggestion. We are all familiar with "air quotes" done with two fingers. "Air hyphens" are demonstrated with a one-handed movement, similar to the Universal Wanking Motion. Ask Uncle Jack for further clarification.
