    Fishing as a co-angler

I'm fishing as a co-angler for the first time this weekend. What do you guys suggest I take as far as equipment? I was thinking 3 rods, a small soft tackle box, a scale, a weigh in bag, snacks. Any suggestions from boaters and co-anglers is appreciated.

I would take 4 rods max. Shouldn’t need the weigh bag.

Pretty good list. I try to always bring rain gear and polarized glasses with me.

For your first time, you don't want to be overwhelmed. Without knowing any specifics, taking 3 well chosen rods, small to medium soft tackle box (with cutters, pliers, etc), life jacket and drinks/snack is a good start. You'll have all the basics.

Agreed, no scale or weight stuff, you'll be sharing that stuff with the boater...

Most of the guys that fish with me have around 8 rods. One to two smaller tackle bags. Food and drinks I put in the cooler. Rain suit and their own life vest. I have a scale they can use. All the tournaments I fish have their own weigh bags to be used.

    Portable livescope for sure!
If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

I fished both as a co and boater. 4-5 rods, tackle bag, drinks snacks, life jacket, cull tags. if its gonna be hot you may ask your boater if he wants you to pick up ice. $40-$60 I think is the going rate to give your boater. I always refused it from the younger anglers.

when I had my bass boat I really didn't care what the co-angler brought as far as rods -they were on his side of the boat. u won't need a weight bag fishing the BFL.

As a boater, I would suggest trying to keep it around 5 rods and as small of a tackle bag that you can get by with.
