I changed jobs often after getting married young. First thing I did when I was hired is find the ceiling and see how bad the nepotism was. No sense spinning your wheels when the high end oppurtunities were bought and paid for. I just kept moving my feet till I found a niche.

Worked for one company that was merged with two other companies. The one that ended up in charge nepotism was so rampant they didn’t even attempt to hide it. The dishonest stuff from the nepotism underlings seemed to be considered a perk of their job. A lot of good people left because of it including myself. It eventually caught up with them but the damage to that company was extensive.

Not that I know of for the huge company I work for. There are some company politics that I wish I didn't know about though. Being a good brown noser will get you a lot further than it should. I do work with a husband/wife couple that work very similar shifts in different departments but they're just normal grunts like I am.

Yep, I’m Al’s second cousin removed, and because of him I’m rolling in the dough with zero work or responsibilities here at the BBC.

I had to look it up too. Never knew it had a technical term. We always called it F***ery.
Is the OP implying that this can happen as isolated incidents or is he ignorant ( NO disrespect) that the entire world seems to run this way nowaday?

My first full time job at a auto repair shop was a family business. The owner and his 2 sons and me. I was definitely the odd man out, and the 2 sons made significantly more than me. They could take off whenever. I went into manufacturing after that, there was no family there other than sons working as part time during summer months.

I was a Government Q A specialist working at a major defense contractor plant for 13 years. You soon learned not to gossip because many workers and management were related.

No. We did have married couples that worked together but they were never in a manager/employee situation. There were no related parties in the C-suite.

Worked for a large company years back and had an uncle as my supervisor. The other guys on the shift loved it because every dirty job that came up I got, uncle didn't want them to think he was showing favoritism. Kind of sucked but it was a good paying job.

Sort of…but when family is brought into an owned business, they usually have some qualifications, experience, know how…etc. They’ve grown up around the business. When nepotism sucks is friends and family getting positions they aren’t qualified for, or minimally qualified for in front of other very qualified persons. I’ve gotten used to the fact that nepotism in careers is pretty much a fact of life.
