    Upper V8 cowl won't release

    V8 300 3B005663
I had the mechanic at the boat doing some work and after he replaced the upper cowl when pulling on the handle it won't release the latches to remove the cowl. He seems to think it's a frozen cable I'm guessing one of the latches might be catching a cable or hose. Is there an easy way to get the cowl removed? Thanks

    Ouch!

Ive had decent results from applying downward pressure on the cowling, pushing release button, push handle DOWN firmly and then lift handle "intentionally" (not hard enough to rip it off, but firmly enough to allow latch to bounce past whatever may be jammed in it).

    Good luck...

I removed my new 250's cowl about 20 times and said "how do I get this cowl off WHEN the trap door or latch mechanism fails" about 40 times.

I've been waiting for Don's reply to this post like a kid waiting for Christmas day and O man ...just what I thought. "Good Luck" says it all.

Rdiesel01, let us know what you learned about removing the cowl.

Mechanic went down to boat - said it took him and a helper over an hour to get it off - says it's an issue with latch system - hopefully it can be repaired

Good news is the latch mechanism in the upper cowling is pretty much a full replacement system. Make sure they double check the fuel line, keyswitch harness and clean-power harness to verify it's not lodged in the cowl seal, or the starboard lower cowling latch (lower cowling portion of latch). I've seen that several times.
