If talking 4 stroke, I have never added oil. Change once a year normally around 50 hours.

CAUTION: It is not usually normal to have to add any significant amount of oil. More often than not, there's been some error in filling the oil sump, method used to check oil, etc.
AVOID the "tube" as there as much bad info there as there is good on stuff like this. See FAQ Section at the top of this forum for information on the CORRECT method to check oil and what the level should be. Failure to follow the steps correctly can result in a substantially over-filled crankcase.
