Bottom Contact Rods -GLoomis NRX or St.Croix Elite

Am looking for a rod for bottom contact, I have the NRX 803C that I love. I just need something stronger for bigger craws and jigs 1/4 to 1/2oz that I want to throw. I plan to pair it up with the Shimano Core 50MG7.

I wanted to keep it at 7'1 due to being shore fishing or would I benefit going "bigger at 7'5" at the NRX 894C?
What about the GLX Models ?

This is what I have come up with so far:

GLoomis NRX 854c (Heavy, Fast Action)
Legend Elite EC71MHXF (MH, Extra Fast)

but if you guys have some other suggestion, fire away

Nrx 893c. I have one. Perfect for 1/4 to 3/8 oz. I have the GLX 842,853,843,844 and Nrx 893. The GLX 844 is a good versatile rod for 1/2oz applications. The NRX 894 would probably be the perfect stick for you for 1/2oz with trailer bottom contact baits.

I’d definitely go with the Loomis. Like above, I love the MBR rods.

NRX 873ccr would be sweet for those weights, I like it better than the 854c, IMHO, good luck...

If you are around cover I like the 894. I used to use the 803 for light plastic then 894 for pitching to cover or larger jigs

kistler 7’3 zbone heavy is also great

As said above, get the 873CRR. I bought mine specifically for jigs from 1/4-1/2oz and 90% of the time it has a 3/8oz jig tied on. I don't find the extra length a hindrance in close quarters at all and that is the vast majority of what we fish down here.

This is what the majority of our fishing looks like. Pitching to trees and brush on the bank.

Just out of curiosity how many recommending the NRX has actually fished StCroix Legend Elite? I have an NRX 802C and 2 Lengend Elites Medium fast and for me the Legend are more sensitive then the NRX and I also like the tips better on the Legend as I can feel what my lure is doing better, as hitting weeds, wood, grass, and light taps and pickups from fish. For me the Legends seem to load faster when setting the hook.

I have fished NRX extensively, and a few models of the LE a fair amount. I prefer the NRX overall, though the Legend Elite blanks are extremely nice and very high quality. I don't like the LE casting reel seat, the "wings" are uncomfortable in my hands, so that detracts from the overall fishability and comfort.

NRX873c is what I would be looking at. Love mine, great for those weights. My NRX893 seems to light for those weights and my NRX894 is a bit longer and stronger than the 873, but a sweet stick too. Love them all just each has its sweet spot.

Thanks guys for all of your feedback.

It looks like it's either the 854C or the 873C. I need to find a good price for the 873C then decide on either those two in the next couple days.

I’d suggest the 873 also as long as you find one for a good price, and if you don’t like it for some reason you’ll have no problems selling it off. But I’m betting that won’t happen

Just getting more "intelligence" before making a decision on 854C or 873C

For those who suggest 873CCR - isnt that a 3 power that I should be concern if I fish in the heavy veg/grass? BTW, going to par it up with Shimano Core 50MG7 if that helps.

The 873 CRR is not a true 3 power. Prior to the release of the 894/895 it was one of the more beefier bottom contact rods. I would say it is in between the 893 and 894. The CRR label designates it as the Carolina Rig Rod but it can be used for jigs and worms.
