    Gains vs losses

Without getting into my reasons for wanting to know, is there an good way/source to determine market gains vs losses for a specific time period whether it be from the first of the year to present or just a 3 month window, etc.?

go to yahoo finance. click on the market you want, should be a window on right hand side labeled "market". there will be a chart with time frames at the top of the chart. click on the time frame you want, and performance will be highlighted beneath the time frame button

If you have an iPhone you can click on the provided "Stocks" icon on your home screen and check the history (1W to 5Yr) and value on any stock including the Dow, S&P etc you want. You can also create a "watch" list so you don't have to search for them each time you want to check. Don't know about Android devices
