    Ulterra or Terrova?

What trolling motor would you recommend? I flip flop between the two. The auto deploy of the Ulterra will be nice on days my back or shoulders aren’t doing well. But I also look at it as another thing to break or wear out which the terrova doesn’t have. This is for an aluminum rig that I want to have a long term set up on. Any input or advise on either motor is welcome.

I have a Terrova & it’s been pretty much flawless but the foot pedal will take you some getting use to. Crappie fishing I use the remote & bass fishing I use the foot pedal. I like it well enough but if you can swing it the ultrex would be smoother with the foot pedal. That said I don’t regret buying a Terrova at all. Especially when it was $1000.00 cheaper than an ultrex. I also bought a 60” shaft which makes it easier to stow & deploy in rough water without having to bend down at the bow of the boat.

From an old guy with a bad back. Ulterra will make fishing easier and more fun and pain free. It may also keep you out of the water on those 2’ chop and bigger days when trying to pull up on the motor. If you are getting the quest it is even better than before. Bob

Between those two, I agree that the less electronic devices that can fail, the better. So I would choose the Terrova over the Ulterra. I went from glass rigs to aluminum last year, and my dealer talked me into the Terrova. Having had cable steer for so many years, I could not get used to it, and after a few months I sold it and got an Ultrex and upgraded the gas piston as my shoulders and back are not great either. I am much happier. If you have been used to cable steer, you will likely have a difficult time getting used to the electronic steering. I hated the Terrova.

I have bass fished for many years with a Terrova on my aluminum Lund. I never used the foot pedal. The remote hanging around your neck is extremely convenient when you're moving around the boat. The trick is to have it in compass heading mode. (Not track mode) I'm actually looking forward to switching out the Foretrex on my Ranger to replace it with an Ultrex so I have that option.

Also, I have MANY walleye fishing buddies who love their Ulterra. These guys fish the Great Lakes and rarely have a malfunction. And when they do, it's usually due to freezing temps.

I appreciate all the info. This is for an aluminum rig so we’ll see if we can get settled on something

I would get the Ulterra! I bass fish by myself all the time. Being able to drop the boat in the water, deploy troller, and park it by the pier is awesome. I have had mine for 7 years and I fish over 75 days a year. I had to replace lift belt and get a remote that I beat up all the time but you would have to steal it to get it from me.
