i am looking for a blue 196 if you know of one for sale.
Looking at a 196. Does this boat have any wood in it and for anyone who owns one. do you like the boat? I here there weren't many made in 1998.
I have a 1998 196 with a 200 Johnson that i just bought 2 monthes ago from a friend of mine. I love the boat, its got a lot more storage than the older HS that I had. It rides beautifully in rougher water and is a very quick boat. Mine comes right out of the hole and i get about 71mph gps with it balanced perfectly, 1 person, and very little weight. Regular tournament weight with 2 people and livewells full I get about 65mph average. Does chimewalk quite a bit when all the way up on the pad but trimming right makes for a nice ride. As for the wood, I am not sure, I havent really investigated the boat that much, mine does have the center floor by the drivers seat is geting soft so i would assume thats wood and it will need to be replaced in the next year or two. But other than that I love mine.
I know this is an old thread, but any 196 out there is all composite, no wood. I worked at the plant when they were built and designed.
no, I sure don't, but I wish I did. About all I have is maybe a brochure or two and some OMC boat group clothing! I sold the HS clothing a couple of years back.
I'll be glad to help anyone on the forum any way I can. I still remember alot about what was going on then.
This may be impossible but i was trying to get a new dash panel for my front deck of my 196. Its starting to crack. Any ideas where i could get one or someting close that would fit?

Check with C&O Marine, they have quite a bit of HS material.

I'd sure love to be able to find a 1998 196I could afford. A good friend owns one & it's a very good riding boat & fishes very well. I think the 196 is without a doubt the best hull they ever made & I'd sure like to own one.
Heres my 96 196 Gararge kept. May be hanging new motor this yr.
nice lookin rig you got there! I have a 98 196, i like your colors better though!
It may be a rare one? The Johnson on her runs strong but brutal on fuel. Need an upgrade but not for what the new Opti's or Etec's cost. Boat has great storage and handles rough water pretty good. It will run around 68 to 70mph just me in it. May never buy another boat.

Anyone installed a recessed trolling motor tray in their 196?
Just installed one from BPS.
Get the Motor Guide tray if you have a Minnkota.
