5750 is the RPM limit for a 200 Optimax. He needs a 24" pitch Tempest.

That is WAY to low a 200 opti is 5750 WOT to limiter. 5200 is badly lugging the motor and will cause carbon buildup.
Go either a 24 or 23 tempest or talk to mark ...

my question is, when i try to get on pad with livewells full it is just abismal. today i took out a large plug and it helped a lot, but then it started to slip while i was running on plane.

is there anything you all can recommend? trying to get dialed in for the college season next year, thanks!
I owned a 2005 ProCraft Super Pro 200 with the 200hp Optimax and ran it for several years. Something is definitely off with your setup. I ran a 25 pitch Tempest or Tempest Plus, I can't remember which one. No vent plugs. PTP was set at 3.5". My son and I fished tournaments out of it so we had full livewells most of the time. Fully loaded it ran 69.4 @ 5,700 rpm. Hole shot was great. Light load was 70.8 @ 5,750 rpm. I bought it new from Jaco's Marine and they were great in helping me get it set up right.

I take my Mercury to local shop for things: impeller, tune up, batteries. If my Mercury wasn't running good, I'd take it in and have it checked.

You will ALWAYS be slower comparing a boat with full livewells vs empty (hole shot or top end). If you make adjustments to better your hole shot, you probably sacrificed your top end. People just need to realize that full livewells add about another 350 lbs to your load. That will change your performance - period.

Drop it down to 3.75 below the pad. Fill the live wells and run it. Note RPM @ WOT and Speed @ WOT. I do believe 3.125 is to high for a Tempest.
