MO Amendment 2 - Sports Betting

They run ads back to back, one saying (vote yes) it will help fund schools and increase teachers salaries (which is highly unlikely) Then the very next ad (vote no) saying it will provide Zero School funding??

I really don't care either way. It's already legal in KS and I don't gamble but we're so close to the State line I know several that take a short drive and place their bet. No different than KS peeps making that same short drive to buy MO weed.

What I do know is the Lottery was going to give schools so much money they would be fine, then MO passes riverboat casinos with the same crap, so much money to the schools won't need anymore school taxes. RIGHT - all Lies and here we are again.

I tried to research it a little and found this so my guess, yes it will pass and it will make ZERO difference in schools and next year they'll raise my taxes to support schools!

From the link below - From ZERO to ? WTF! I wonder why DraftKings and FanDuel kicked in millions for the the amendment passing?

Saying yes to Amendment 2 would allow license fees prescribed by the Missouri Gaming Commission, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office. It would also provide a “10% wagering tax on revenues received to be appropriated for education after expenses incurred by the Commission and required funding of the Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund.”
Because the proposal allows for deductions against sports gaming revenues, state governmental entities don’t know how much revenue they’ll make off the amendment. The ballot title goes on to say it could range “from
$0 to $28.9 million annually.” Local government estimates are unknown as well.

I don’t care if people want to gamble their money away. But it is really just more money for states to waste.

We've got a similar amendment on the ballot here. The casinos in Oklahoma are funding the opposition, not for moral reasons, but because their Arkansas customers will stay here. I'm not a gambler myself, but if people from AR are gonna gamble, might as well keep the money in state.

Really clears that up lol. We also have Amendment 5...? I think that is to allow an additional casino slot, raised from 13 to 14. This will be on the osage river below the bagnell dam at LOZ if passed. That casino is not to be confused with the Osage Tribe that is also trying to get something passed by the federal government to have their casino about 1 mile down the road. Will either of those give money to schools or the community? I think they say so, but who knows.

It always to fund the schools, just sound better. Even if it is marked as "XXX dollars from this go to the school" they just remove that same amount from the general funding and the schools stay exactly the same, and next year... Just think of the children! This will fund the schools.

    Pennsylvania lottery supports Senior Citizens.
I haven't met one yet that benefits from the program, but I see a bunch that contribute

OP.. I think your analysis is correct. It hasn't done anything for Kansas that I can tell. I would assume with Mo already having riverboat casinos and lottery, sports betting will not be the panacea for school funding either.

It says 10% AFTER certain expenses. You can bet the politicians will find a way to get their hands on the money. I agree the goberment will cut their amount to the schools so the schools will have a 0 increase in funding.

That was the "bait and switch" scam that Ohio politicians pulled on their citizens in order to get the Ohio Lottery law passed many years ago.
