What is your swim jig rod and reel setup?

I actually have a few setups...swim jigs from 1/4-3/4 oz and different sized trailers to match the weight and jig size.

For an all around, I'd say a 7'0" MH Mod-fast rod with 30 lb braid + 15lb fluoro leader and a reel with IPT of roughly 28-30 (most 7: something gear ratios in a ~ 34 mm spool). If I choose fluoro main line I like a slightly faster taper and a bit more power, especially if the swimjig weight is 1/2 oz or larger.

    Good luck.

Falcon Cara Swim Jig rod and Loomis GLX MBR843. But I throw 1/4oz plus trailer around 90% of the time. Braid in heavier grass and fluoro in sparse grass and weed edges.

An old Gander Mtn XFactor 7’2” MH-Fast, Lews Tournament MG 6.5:1 ratio (the only Lews I’ve owned that didn’t have problems), 30lb braid to 15lb floro, 1/4-1/2oz jigs with rage craws as trailers.

I had a champ 734, I'd be inclined to agree, and I'd also second the falcon swim jig rod as I have one of those currently... lot of similarities, but differences are an inch and dollars. Use a Revo 5, 7.2 ratio with 15lb Pline Cx premium

I've got a few as well, rod I've been using most lately is a NFC Hybrid CB706 Zentron I built. Around a lot of pads I use 50lb PP and a Zillion G and lighter cover 15lb Invisix and a Zillion G.

For northern style 1/4oz swim jigs on fc, I have a 7'mh fast action bass pro shops carbonlite with 12lb yozuri hybrid and a shimano curado 200e7. That rod is a slower/delayed action in comparison to other 7'mh rods and that helps with keeping fish pinned as well as loading up the blank for better casts on light swimjigs. I won't throw thicker gage hooks on this and will only throw light/medium wire hooks. I make my own jigs now, but think of hooks like the lethal weapon swim jigs. This is about 80% of my swim jig fishing.

For swim jigs up to 1/2oz on braid: dobyns champion 734c with 30lb sufix 832 and a shimano curado 200e7. I won't throw light/medium wire hook swim jigs on this setup due to braid and bending hooks, but will throw thicker hooks like most swim jigs like the dirty jigs standard swim jigs. I usually only fish this style of swim jig around heavier grass and reeds.

I usually fish a 3/8" oz swimjig with a 3.5" swim trailer. Right now I use a Dobyns DC734c with a 6.3 ratio Daiwa Tatula Elite and 17 pound Seaguar Invisx.

For 3/8 and up plus various trailers, I use an ALX Toadface, 50# Hitena Airbraid Silky with or without a mono or fluoro leader and either a Shimano high-speed Bantam or Met. Perfect for what I do with a swimjig.

I’ll agree with the dc734c if in more open water.
In heavy grass and pads using braid the 734 is to light to suit me.
I am wondering if the dx745 would work there ?

Gary recommended the 735c to me for heavy grass. Have not tried it, but he was pretty high on that rod when I talked to him. His comments: "The 735C is an outstanding rod. Since you already have the 734 just know the 735 is a LOT faster than the 734C so it brings power quick. I wouldn't be surprised if it also became your new swim jig rod. No joke it's super popular for this technique. It's also one of my top favorite rods."

I throw swim jigs on the same thing I throw a Chatterbait on. I have a Phenix X-11 I like for it along with some Powell Endurance CB models. The latter is cheaper and probably a little better for the technique as the Phenix X-series flexes a bit further before getting to the backbone which can be a little tiring in grass. The Powell Endurance 705 CB and 755 CB are composite sticks that I absolutely love, while the 725 CB is a mod-fast graphite stick that I've never fished myself. I prefer the 705 for closer quarters, 755 for longer casts. Braid to a 16 lb Sniper leader unless in really heavy cover like thick pads where I'll go straight braid.
