Who uses casting rod for shaky head?

Thinking about switching from spinning to casting for shaky head presentation. Currently use an NRX 852S+. Just prefer casting rods...anyone else in same boat? Obviously, main concern is trying to maintain that level of sensitivity. Thanks

I am currently using a Megabass P5 Bait Finesse (Hein) rod, a Daiwa SV Light LTD 8.1R, and 8lb test fluorocarbon line. I have also used a Daiwa Steez CT SV 700XH on the same rod with equal success. Any rod and reel combo that you feel will handle your desired line size should work well.
I do not have any dislike for spinning tackle. I do feel like I have better sensitivity by palming a reel, when all else is equal. The combo above is quite versatile and just a lot of fun to fish (and catch).

I've been using a Calcutta Conquest bfs on a 7' Kistler Hunt. It's a lot of fun to fish.

Yes, I have been fishing them on a 7 foot medium casting setup for years.

I have always used a casting rod for a shakey head. I currently use a ALX Rods ENOX Hunch.

Thanks! Yeh, I was thinking either a 2 or 3 power....
Anyone have the 802 and 803c (852/853) Curious how those would compare for shaky head sensitivity.

I agree here, I tend to lean towards Steez AGS and P5 rods for most things as I don't necessarily like the look of the NRX rods, but I haven't been able to find a better shakey head casting rod than the NRX+ 852C. I've tried and failed.

Nrx 852c is money. Pair it up with a curado 70mgl with 15lb tatsu.

I switched from spinning to a Dobyns DX702C with a Shimano Curado 70MGL spooled with 10lb Sunline Sniper. Great combo for shakey from 1/8 -1/4 oz.

I typically use a NRX 893c with a metainum reel and 30# braid or 12#FC. if I upsize to mag shakey then i go to the NRX 894, if I got ultra light I use an old crucial 6'6m shaky/drop shot casting rod with a tuned Chronarch mg50 reel and 6# hybrid line.

If I’m tossing a 3/16-1/4 sure I’ll use casting gear, somewhere between 12-16lb.

I built a dedicated one with the NFC (Gary Loomis blank). Used the xray mb733 blank…rated a ml blank with tons of back bone. Less than $100 to build. Love the 7’3” length & sensitivity of a loomis blank. Threw a BFS reel on it. Great combo. Ps. Have NRX’s, glx’s, steez’s, & others. Great blank.

The 852c used to be my go-to rod until I got my hands on a Conquest 842 MBR.

7'ML Phenix UMBX/ 71XG Curado with 10lb fluoro. I've never used a spinning rod for shaky heads.
